How to Set Up Outlook Express 5.x/6.0 for SMTP

Use the Internet Connection Wizard to set up an email account in
Outlook Express using SMTP authentication.

1. Open Outlook Express

Open Outlook Express.

2. From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.

Tools menu, choose Accounts.

3. Click the Add button, and choose Mail.

Click the Add button, and choose Mail.

4. In the Display name field, type in your name.
5. Click the Next button.

Enter name.

6. Select I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use.
7. In the E-mail address field, type in your email address.
8. Click the Next button.

Internet E-mail Address.

9. Click the down arrow on the My incoming mail server is a drop-down list and choose POP3.

10. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server field, type pop.yourdomainname.com
or mail.yourdomain.com.

11. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type smtp.yourISP.com or mail.yourISP.com.
Some of the more common ISP's are listed below. Use the ISP setting of the company that
allows you to access (dial-up/cable modem/DSL) the Internet.

  • AOL may not allow the use of SMTP

  • AT&T Broadband: mail.attbi.com

  • Comcast: smtp.comcast.net

  • Earthlink: smtp.earthlink.net

  • GlobalNet: mail.q8isp.net

  • Mindspring: smtp.earthlink.net

  • XO: smtp.edizenco.com

12. Click the Next button.

Account Settings.

13. In the Account name field, type in your email address or your username.

  • Buzz Sales: username

  • ClaimSolutions: username

  • Cranmore, FitzGerald & Meaney: username@cfmlawfirm.com

  • Edizen: username@edizenco.com

  • MAD Communications: username

  • WDFoto: username@wdfoto.com

14. In the Password field, type in your password.
15. Check the box next to Remember password if you would like to save your
password (otherwise you must type it in each time you check email).
16. Click the Next button.

Mail Logon.

17. Click the Finish button.
18. Click on Tools menu again and click Accounts.

20. Select your account and click the Properties button.

Select your account and click the Properties button.

21. Click on the General tab.

Click on the General tab.

22. Change the Mail Account to your name or however you wish to name this account.
23. In User Information, enter any name. Copy or type in E-mail Address into the Reply address.
24. Make sure that the above check box contains a check.
25. Click the Servers tab.

Click the Servers tab.

26. Passwords are case sensitive. Change your password using capitalization if necessary.
27. Click the Connection tab.

Click the Connection tab.

Make sure that your connection is correct. If you have a modem, them the brand name of your
modem should be selected. Alternatively, if you connect to the internet via a cable modem,
or T1 line, your connection should be Local Area Network.

28. Click Apply. Test your email address by sending an email to your new email address.
